Frequently Asked Questions & Answers... (Printer
Version)
Thank you for visiting our
website and discovering that Finta Hay Service is the source for your
hay, grain, feed, livestock products, and more. For your convenience, we are
answering some of the most frequently asked questions by our customers in this
section of the website. However, if you have any needs or questions not covered
in our website, please do not hesitate in contacting us at: (925)
516-5859.
Q. How much hay should I
get?
A. On the average a 1,000 -1,200 lb. horse goes through a 100 lb.
bale of hay per week. To feed a horse for a year we recommend getting 60 bales.
Obviously a hard keeper or a very large horse will eat more and a pony or
miniature will go through less.
Q. How long is hay good
for?
A. When stored properly, meaning off the ground in a weather proof
shelter, hay will easily last a year. Any longer than a year isn't harmful at
all, but the nutrients do slowly disintegrate over time. Hay's biggest enemy is
moisture so store the bales on pallets and tarp them if there is any question of
the integrity of your shelter.
Q. When is the best time of the year to stock up?
A.
For the best prices and quality we recommend the end of May through July. Hay is
at it's peak of harvesting and that translates to more availability than the
rest of the year. There are variables to consider though such as how late the
rainy season lasted, which type of hay you are looking for and how much of a
demand there is everywhere. Even what is going on weather wise. In other states
or how many farmers have switched to other crops can affect local hay
supply.
Q. How can I pay for
my delivery or products?
A. We accept all major credit cards (American
Express, Visa, Mastercard & Discover), ATM and cash. We no longer accept
checks unless we have a history of 2 or more recent years of continuous and good
credit with you. We make sure your credit card information is only viewed by us
and we shred all paperwork with any information that will be put in the trash.
Our credit card machine requires several items of information that we have to
enter to protect you from fraudulent charges. When we are going to deliver to
you our office staff will run your card only once the truck is fully loaded and
we have an accurate count on all items. Currently we are in the process of
setting up arrangements for credit accounts with us. We will bill you at the end
of the month with 30 day payment terms.
Q. What are the hours for the hay
yard if I want to go pick up feed?
A. We are open Monday-Saturday from 9
a.m.-5 p.m. We are closed on major holidays such as, The 4th of July,
Thanksgiving & Christmas. We always announce on our phone message any days
we might be closed at least 2 weeks in advance.
